New Series of Small Works

Over the last several days, I've been working on a new series of small works that brought me a lot of joy.
I'm continuing to explore themes from childhood, both whimsical and difficult. I highly recommend using your art practice as your own art therapy! Memories become colors and atmosphere and moods, and my work has things to teach me that I didn't know I knew.
As a teenager, I stumbled on some old books and was taken with the long titles of 18th and 19th century works. Later, when I tried my hand at poetry and had a subscription to POETRY magazine, my favorite titles were the very long ones that doubled as the first line of the poem. I've carried my joy in long titles over into my work, and each title in this series gives context for seeing the piece in a new way. I'm especially pleased to have made such small works with such long titles. It feels a little like poetry.
These are a continuation of my Notebook Page works, with a new twist. I've mounted these worlds in their own little notebook covers, complete with extra pages. The extra dimensionality really has to be seen in person. They are tiny artifacts of metaphysical exploration. They are framed in 8x10 frames, with a mat against the glass and some extra space for the work to be "float" mounted in, like a shadowbox. They make the treasure hunter and collector of junk in me very very happy, like the world's would be right at home as part of a collection of curiosities. Don't forget they make wonderful groupings as well, like a collection of mounted butterflies, or rare stamps.
Happy collecting!
